Travel Advertising monitored by ASAI
The Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland (ASAI) today announced that since mid-December 2006 it has been undertaking a monitoring exercise on travel advertising in the media. The initiative was undertaken for a number of reasons including ongoing concerns regarding compliance with the terms of their Code. Particular concerns exist in relation to prices for holidays being quoted which did not include inescapable costs to the consumer including taxes and airport charges.
Prior to the commencement of the monitoring exercise, which is ongoing, instructions in relation to the use of inclusive prices were issued to travel companies and the media.
As a result of this exercise, the Secretariat of the ASAI has engaged in discussions with a range of travel companies and media in order to obtain confirmation that current travel advertising will comply with the Code.
Similar exercises have been carried out in the past.
