  • The advertisement stated (amongst other things):

    “Munster Roofing
Covering Cork City and County since 1978

Specialising in all repair work with written guarantee”.

The advertisement also featured the National Guild of Master Craftsmen logo. It also stated that they were “fully registered C2 Contractors”.

  • The complainant hired Munster Roofing to carry out roof repairs on her home. She was told a receipt and guarantee would be sent to her in the post. The complainant said that she had subsequently learnt that the company was not a member of the National Guild of Master Craftsmen. She did not receive a receipt or the guarantee.

  • The advertisers failed to provide a response to the complaint.

  • Complaint upheld.

The Complaints Committee considered the detail of the complaint. The Complaints Committee expressed concern at the advertisers’ failure to respond to the complaint. They reminded them that there is an onus on advertisers to ensure that their advertising is in conformity with the Code. In the absence of a response the Committee upheld the complaint under Sections 3.10, 4.1, 4.4, 4.9 and 4.10 of the Code.

ACTION REQUIRED: The advertisement should not reappear in any media in its current form. The Complaints Committee asked that the case report be brought to the attention of the media concerned.
