Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland (ASAI) makes four new Board appointments

CEO of Sunrise Media and Suzanne McElligott, CEO of Interactive Advertising
Bureau (IAB), join the Board of the ASAI

The Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland (ASAI), the independent self-regulatory body
committed to promoting the highest standards of marketing communications in Ireland, has
announced the following appointments to its Board:
– Roslyn Dalton, Copy Clear lead with RTÉ
– Eoin Doyle, Director of Marketing and Innovation with Glanbia Consumer Foods
– Siobhan Lennon, CEO of Sunrise Media
– Suzanne McElligott, CEO of the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB)

All four will join the ASAI Board with immediate effect and will fulfil their duties in conjunction with their respective day to day roles. The Board of the ASAI consists of fifteen Members – the Chairman and four Advertiser members, four Agency members and six Media members. The
Board is responsible for managing the business of the Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland and for drawing up and implementing the ASAI Code and reviewing and amending it from time to time. The Board is also empowered to exercise a disciplinary function over members of the ASAI.

Roslyn Dalton, Copy Clear Lead with RTÉ, has over 15 years’ experience in the area of advertising regulation. She currently works as RTÉ’s lead in its Copy Clearance Division which handles in excess of 7,000 pieces of copy each year to which the provisions of the ASAI and Broadcasting Authority of Ireland Codes, as well as other consumer protection regulation are applied, with the final goal of a compliant broadcast on RTÉ’s services. Roslyn has been an active and conscientious member of the ASAI Complaints Committee for the past five years and is fully familiar with the workings of the organisation.

Eoin Doyle, Director of Marketing and Innovation with Glanbia Consumer Foods, has been with Glanbia for 16 years. Prior to joining Glanbia, he served in senior marketing roles in the automotive and alcohol industries, including a number of years working on Bailey’s Irish Cream
with Diageo.

Siobhán Lennon is CEO of Sunrise Media, the holding company for The Sunday Business Post newspaper and Webprint. She was previously the Commercial Director of The Sunday Business Post before being appointed CEO in December last year. She joined the company in 2013 from
media agency MEC, where she headed up MEC Access. Prior to that, Siobhán worked with News International in a number of senior positions, including Group Client Service Director.

Suzanne McElligott, Chief Executive of IAB, has over 20 years’ experience in the media and marketing sector. Under Suzanne’s leadership, IAB Ireland’s outputs across best practice, research, training and policy have driven growth of the Irish digital market since 2010 to a record
high of €445m in 2016. She is a former director of Independent Radio Sales, a founder of the Radio Awards, and is a former chairperson of the Outdoor Media Association. As a lecturer in DIT’s marketing department, Suzanne also developed digital marketing course content.

Welcoming the appointments, Sean O’Meara, Chairman of the ASAI, said:

“The ASAI will benefit greatly from the significant experience of all Board members in a host of key areas relevant to the work we do. The ASAI Board plays a crucial role in steering the direction of the organisation as well as drafting and implementing Code updates and amendments. On behalf of myself, the rest of the ASAI Board, and the wider ASAI team, we would like to welcome Siobhan, Eoin, Roslyn and Suzanne to the organisation and we wish them the very best in their new role with the ASAI Board.”

The Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland is financed by the advertising industry and committed, in the public interest, to promoting the highest standards of marketing communications that is advertising, promotional marketing and direct marketing. The objective is to ensure that all commercial marketing communications are ‘legal, decent, honest and truthful’.
